The Peer Agent is an AI participant that lives inside your workspace. It works from what the team has actually written — your notes, sources, and topics — not from the open web. Like the rest of PeerNotes, it’s built to sharpen your thinking rather than replace it: it asks the questions a careful reader would, and resurfaces related thinking you’ve already captured. It shows up as a member of the workspace — you’ll see it in the roster and the mention menu as PeerNotes Agent. There are two ways to work with it.

Chat with it

Open Chat in the sidebar and ask it anything, with the current workspace as context.

Previous conversations are listed alongside, so you can continue a thread or start a new one.

Ask your question

Type into Ask your assistant… — about your own thinking (“What have I captured about onboarding lately?”), a source you added, or a draft you’re developing.

Keep the thread

Conversations are saved per workspace. Switch workspaces and chat follows, with that workspace’s content as context.

Tag it in a comment

You don’t have to leave what you’re reading to ask the Peer Agent something. In a comment on a thought, note, or source, type @ and pick PeerNotes Agent — the same way you’d mention a teammate. The agent reads the item and the surrounding thread, then replies in place. This is the fastest way to ask a question about a specific passage:
  • @PeerNotes Agent — is this claim backed by anything in our sources?
  • @PeerNotes Agent — what did we conclude about this last quarter?
  • @PeerNotes Agent — summarize the open questions in this note.
Tagging keeps the question and the answer attached to the exact spot they’re about, so the next person reading the note sees the context too.

What it can contribute

Beyond answering, the Peer Agent can add to the workspace on behalf of members — capturing a thought, drafting a note, or saving a source. Which of these it’s allowed to do is set per workspace by an admin, in Workspace settings → Agents, where the agent can also be turned off entirely for that workspace.

Your control

Each member decides what the Peer Agent may do with their content, in Preferences → AI:
  • Comment — whether the agent may comment on your own thoughts, notes, or sources.
  • Tag — whether the agent may mention you in other people’s thoughts, notes, or sources.
Both are on by default, and can be set separately for thoughts, notes, and sources.

Behind the scenes

The Peer Agent also works continuously without being asked:
  • Organizing — clustering new thoughts into topics as they’re captured
  • Connecting — linking related thinking across the workspace so themes surface on their own
The Peer Agent works within one workspace at a time. It only ever sees the workspace you’re currently in.
