# Listen to notes and sources

> Have any note or source read aloud in a natural AI voice — pause and resume, at the speed and voice you choose.

Any [note](/core-concepts/notes) or [source](/core-concepts/sources) can be read to you in a natural AI voice — a good final pass on a draft, or a way through a long source while you're away from the screen.

## Play a note or source

  <Step title="Open the item and select Listen">
    In the top bar of a note or source, select **Listen** (the headphones icon). PeerNotes synthesizes speech and starts playing — audio streams in, so playback begins before the whole piece is ready.

  <Step title="Pause and resume">
    While it's playing the control becomes **Pause**; paused, it becomes **Resume**.

Playback reads the title first, then the body — headings, paragraphs, and lists — with abbreviations expanded and natural pauses.

## Voice and speed

The **voice** and **speed** come from your [Voice preferences](/features/preferences#voice): six voices (Alloy, Echo, Fable, Onyx, Nova, Shimmer) and speeds from 0.75× to 2×.
